Nice and approachable commander
Maj Merkh was the best commander I've ever had. Always came out for post checks to see how everyone was doing and to learn what drives them. If you had a personal problem he would listen just to hear you out. Literally take off his rank and just sit there and listen to you. Would love to serve with him again.
You cannot find a better Security Forces Commander. This guy is phenominal. He knew everyone's name, their family members, their goals. I have never served with a commander who cared more for his troops than himself. He put every single airman ahead of himself in every situation. Selfless to a fault, he would literally do any and everything in his power to ensure his people were happy, equipped, and ready for the mission. He actively listened to his NCOs - to the point that he would go with their advice even if he disagreed - if the consensus differed from his. Maj Merkh is a living masterclass in leadership, and being a servant leader. He is humble, approachable, and can be depended upon to make the right call. You do not understand the pure professionalism this man displays. Any unit that gets Major Merkh will be blessed beyond words. And you better believe he knows the jobs of his guys as well as they do. He never took issues with coming out on post checks and taking his time training his guys. An SF commander training his guys on rifling? Thart NEVER happens. Most SF commanders dont even know what rifling is. Major Merkh is the real deal. A true professional, and one of the best damn commanders anyone could ask for.
